Afrin under occupation (176):
The village of “Gonde Mazen”, the death of a released person from Al-Ra’i prison, retroactive royalties imposed in “Baadina”, arbitrary arrests and cutting down trees
In order to collect the royalties from the remaining Kurds in the Afrin region, the militias resort to various methods of threats and extortion, using various excuses, pretexts, and other crooked methods; For example, but not limited to, after publishing reports about the militias of the “Al-Majd Corps” imposing royalties of large quantities of olive oil on the villages of “Kela, Zarka, Jubana, Hayama, Saariya, Bakhja, Ali Bageh” and others, and the objections of people to that, they informed their collaborators in every village that the collected royalties must be transported to another location outside the villages, and to deliver them out of sight.
Below we document numerous violations and crimes:
= The village of Gunde Mazin “Gundî Mezin”:
It is one of the old villages with historical monuments and caves, and it is 9 km from the center of Afrin.
It consisted of /40/ houses, and there were about /225/ indigenous Kurdish residents, of whom /27 families = 100 people/ remained there after the invasion, and /10 families = 75 people/ from the recruiters were resettled there.
The militia of “Al-Ghab Brigade – Al-Hamzat Division” took control of the village, and seized 6 houses including their contents, and stole from the rest of the houses supplies, copper utensils, electrical and other tools and equipment, transformers, public electricity cables and landline telephone cables.
In the city of Afrin, the gunmen stole an agricultural tractor with its accessories from “Ahmed Othman” and /4/ motorcycles of citizens of the village, shortly after their displacement there.
The “Al-Ghab Brigade” militia also turned the building of the only primary school in the village into a place for raising cows, and imposed royalties on the villagers (/500/ cans of oil 16 kg net from the 2019 season, /250/ cans of oil from the 2020 season/, and this year there wasn’t even a season for levying royalties on him, and during the past four years, olives, almonds, sumac, grape leaves, figs and walnuts were also stolen.
It cut down the forests of “Guzê Amê”, as well as the small mountain forest on the other side, and also the forest of Rustam mountain “Çayî Ristem”, and perennial oak trees, for logging and trade.
And it had taken the villa of “Abdul Rahim Hanan (Rahim)” as a military headquarters, until the group “Al-Ghab Brigade – Moataz Al-Abdullah” was expelled by the Division from the village in August 2021, and the villa was taken over by its owner, and later, at dawn on Sunday 22/8/ 2021 AD his son Radwan, 50 years old, was killed in his olive field on the road to the neighboring village of “Dargereh” when he arrived there with the intention of cultivating his land with his tractor, for the theft of the contents of his house.
It is reported that the Turkish occupation forces have seized the entire “Afrin Flowers Private School” in the city of Afrin, which belongs to the “Rahim” family, and has taken it as a military headquarters.
The remaining residents of the village were subjected to various types of violations and crimes, including arbitrary arrest, torture, insults, material extortion and others.
The fate of the citizen “Bassam Ahmed Hanan, 35 years”, who has been forcibly disappeared since March 2018, is still unknown.
= The death of a released person from Al-Ra’i prison:
After he was released in early March 2021 AD from the notorious Al-Ra’i town prison, which is run by the “Sultan Murad Division” militia under the supervision of Turkish intelligence, and three years have passed since his arrest and forcible disappearance since March 2018 on charges of relations with the former Autonomous Administration, the citizen “Muhammad Manla Ali son of Adnan / 28 years old – father of a child” from the people of Raju town, from a terminal illness, due to torture and cruel treatment he was subjected to during his arbitrary detention and without contact with the outside world.
He was returned to his home on Thursday 16/12/2021 AD to die in the evening, after losing the hope of his recovery in Turkish hospitals, and his burial the next day.
= Imposing retroactive royalties in the town of “Badina”:
After the end of the olive season, the so-called “Absi al-Hamad (Abbas) from the village of Sarja – al-Zawiya mountain, and Abu Khaled al-Jabali also from the village of Joseph – al-Zawiya mountain”, from the leaders of the militia of the “112th Brigade” in the town of “Baadina”, forced citizens to give them retroactive royalties from the current season and previous seasons, with a total of /150/ oil cans (16 kg net), including from (Hassan Abdo Mustafa on behalf of Abdeen Kakaj, Fat Sunni, Rustam Mustafa, Fat Sunni, on behalf of the family of the late Khalil Kakakh, Fat Sunni, Mustafa Hajj Hassan, on behalf of the late Muhammad Hamqaflo, Hassan Shaaban oon behalf of his brother Rashid, Haji Hassan Bayram on behalf of his sister, Hussein Aref Alo on behalf of his brother Kamal, Ahmad Murad Habash on behalf of his brother Hussein, Jamil Ali Korba on behalf of his father-in-law) on the pretext that the absentees are (members of the party, shabiha of the regime, residing in Aleppo and al-Shahba… ), knowing that they are forcibly displaced, and the property of some of them is shared with their brothers, which has not yet been sorted out, in addition to the expenses and services they provided to the trees; Those militias had also stolen the crop of 250 olive trees belonging to the absent heirs of “Manan Hashino Hajji” – including orphans – entrusted to citizen Muhammad Othman, and 100 trees belonging to Hassan Haider Habash, despite his presence in the town, after two years of service and expenses. Also, the so-called “Abbas” beat the citizen “Hussein Aref Alo” because he objected to the payment of the royalty, and he impounded the cars of “Hassan Shaaban and Mustafa Hassan Shaaban” pending the delivery of the royalty.
The leader of the brigade “Abdul Karim Jamal Qasoum” also forced the owners of the four olive presses in the town to hand over the olive oil produced (about 1000 tons) to his representatives, to pay them its value after the end of the season at a price 10 dollars less per ton than the price at which it sells to Al-Birain factories in the region, to receive a royalty of about 10 thousand dollars.
Four years ago, these militias seized (/200/ olive trees belonging to “the late Ali Rashid Ali”,/150/ trees belonging to “Hussein Murad Habash”,/90/ trees belonging to “Mohammed Habash Habash”,/100/ trees belonging to “Muhammad Habash Habash”,/100/ trees for “Khalil Abdullah”, /80/ trees for “the late Hussein Othman Hajji”, /225/ trees for “Mohammed Ahmed Shaaban”); The militia recently informed all the clients of the absentees to prevent them from managing the property of the absentees, as it painted the trunks of /250/ olive trees belonging to “Rukn al-Din Bakr Muhammad” as a sign of seizing them.
Likewise, they follow and scrutinize all the property of the absentees from the town of Baadina and impose new royalties on it. The militias of the brigade and its leader, “Qausom”, intend to take full possession of it.
It is reported that “Abbas and al-Jabali” deducted a percentage of the financial aid granted to the townspeople recently by a relief organization, under the pretext of securing food rations for families who were deprived in a previous distribution, but they looted the bulk of what was collected.
And “Abbas” and other agents have dug and excavated several sites among the olive fields in the southern vicinity of the town in search of antiquities and buried treasures and be stolen.
Is it possible for the so-called “Committee to Restore Rights” in Afrin and the Syrian-Brotherhood Coalition to hold the aforementioned people accountable and return the looted items to their owners!?
= Arbitrary arrests:
– On 9/12/2021 AD, the military police militia in Afrin arrested the citizen “Furat Zaza / 30 / married for two months” from the village of “Aljiya” – Shara / Sharan, a resident of the village of “Marateh” and the owner of a shoe-making workshop, after he defended himself against armed men who attacked him in his workplace.
– On 12/12/2021 AD, Turkish intelligence and police militias arrested the citizens, “Farid Ahmed Mustafa, nicknamed (Nidal) 47 years old, from Amara village, Bairam Ajo Mustafa, 48 years old, from Shekhkhotka village, and Jihad Muhammad Mansour, 50 years old. From the village of Shorba” on charges of having ties to the former Autonomous Administration, and released them on Thursday, 12/16/2021 AD, after imposing a fine of 1200/ Turkish Lira on each one of them.
= cut down trees:
It became a regular and systematic matter for those who carried it out, including armed and recruited people backed by militias, with the aim of firewood, coal industry and trade; In the village of “Kimar” – Sherawa, the “Al-Hamzat Division” militias recently cut down about two thousand olive trees belonging to “Izzat Mamo Nebo, Mughham Rashid Alo Nebo, Einat Mamo Nebo, Nidal Jammu Nebo, Ghazi Mamo Nebo, Awlad Shahin Nebo.”
As long as the Turkish sponsor and occupier draws hostile policies and practices against the Afrin region and its people, there is no solution to their tragedy with cosmetic patches and the removal of some grievances.
The solution lies in ending the presence of the occupation and mercenary militias, and the return of Afrin to Syrian sovereignty and the management of its people.
