Afrin Under Occupation (124):

Violations and Demographic Change in the village of ” Chaqmaq Kabir ” , Transgressions, Explosive Devices, and Release of the Forcibly Disappeared

 

In the Turkish occupied areas, explosions with IEDs frequently take place in villages, not to mention city centers. That is an indication of chaos prevalence in the light of Turkish government’s disavowal of its responsibilities to secure order and public safety, and the militias’ conflict for mercenary, looting and the scope of influence, against the background of inter-conflicts fueled by Turkish intelligence.

Violations and Crimes continue in Afrin; among which we mention:

= Out of 300 households in the village of Chaqmaq Kabir – Rajo sub-district, only 92 families have remained. More than 400 families of the recruits have been resettled there. The village is controlled by the militias of “Sham Legion ” and has a headquarters in the village, and seized about / 7000 / olive trees belonging to the families of Ibish, Sheikho and Abbas as well as about 4000 almonds and pistachios tree belonging to the sons of the late Sheikho Ibish. The seized trees were subjected to illegal cutting for the purpose of logging.  The powers-of-attorney according to which some citizens could manage the property of their relatives have been cancelled. About / 50 /tons of wood have been made from almonds and pistachio trees in addition to an oak tree aged 300 years and another one aged 200 years in the land of the late Sheikho Othman as well as the entire forest trees surrounding the shrine of ” Qamchi ” and those in the mountain overlooking the village, were also uprooted in search for antiquities. In August 2018 the following citizens were arrested   by the intelligence “: the elderly Hikmat Abdo daughter of Bakr 60 years old, Mohammed Sheikho Naasan/ 62 / years, Akash Khalil Asaad 43 years, Zahreddine Hamid Mohammed 37 years”. They have been transferred to Turkey and sentenced as following:  6 years for ” Hikmat ” and / 5 / years for the other three, on charges of the relationship with the previous Self-Administration. During the raid on the village by the militias, they stole the contents of the houses ( food supplies, olive oil, electric sets, panels and batteries of power photocell, cooking gas bottles,  copper utensils etc. ,wood used for building ,valued at 15 thousand dollars , and vehicles (a Hyundai pickup car, an agricultural tractor, a bagger that was dismantled and sold as spare parts ( belonging to the Hamo Ehamo family, and all the assets of a poultry farming facility between the villages of ” Jaqmak and Angelia ” were stolen from an electrical generating set, tanks, tools, doors and accessories used as a kind of a roof, bare walls out of service. The inhabitants of the village were subjected to various kinds of harassment and many of them were arrested such as the citizen Radwan Muhammad who was arrested on 30/07/2020 on charges of apostasy and sentenced to 6  months of imprisonment in Maratah Prison – Afrin.

= In Bulbul sub-district and its villages, all olive fields and lands seized by the militias are cultivated with the tractors of the inhabitants of those villages, without wages or very little wages. In addition to that, the properties of the citizens living in the village are also seized, if they could not bring title deeds or agricultural licenses granted by the Local Council nominated by the occupation authorities.

= On 02/01/2021the militias of Alhamzat Band cut off about / 225 / olive trees belonging to three brothers from a family Kevno in the village of Pablat, about 6 km west of Afrin, although they had paid a royalty of 2 dollars for each tree during the season. They were also arrested for several days to be release later under threat of punishment in case of complaint or disclosing that crime. Others were threatened of having their daughters kidnapped in case they lodge a complaint about the cutting of their trees.

= Friday afternoon 08/01/2021 , a group of ” Brigade Samarkand militias ” riding two cars and heavily armed, attacked and severely beat the citizen , ” Khalil Ahmed Sheikh Issa ” an inhabitant of Kafarsafreh, in front of his house, after forcibly taking him out under a flimsy pretext. As a result, he was hospitalized to Afrin for treatment whereby severe wounds and bruises were found on his body, a broken hand and some ribs broken. He was discharged from the hospital in the evening in a miserable health condition.

= On 03/01/2021 during an armed fight between two groups of militias inside the city of Afrin, a minor young man from Ghouta was shot.

= On 01/01/2021 the militias ” of Ahrar Asharqiya Army that controls the village of Korbh -Jenders imprisoned thirty elements of pro- Alhamzat Band militia who cut off olive trees which the former had confiscated from forcibly displaced citizens.

=On 08/01/2021 a car was detonated with an explosive device at the entrance of of Kafr Safra town by ” engineering experts “. The car which was donated had been presented by the Turkish intelligence to the deputy leader of the ” Samarkand Brigade ” militia , who is occupying the house of a displaced Kurdish citizen near the same site. The blasting charged was discovered while washing the car before using it for the first time.

= On 02/01/2021 the Turkish forces and their mercenaries shelled the town of ” Tal Rifaat ” and some villages of Shahba in Aleppo northern countryside. The villages are  densely populated by forcibly displaced people from the occupied area of Afrin.

= The female citizen ” Nazliyeh Abdul Rahman Naasan ” from the village Khllnerh was released on 27/12/2020. She had been arrested in the summer of 2018, and forcibly disappeared for more than two years and a quarter. She was later transferred to Marateh prison where she was finally released from.

= The citizen “Samir Muhammad son of Faiq from the village of “ Tal Sallour  –  a holder of BA in economics from the University of Aleppo – was released” at the beginning of this month. He was arrested in March 2018 during the invasion of the region, and was forcibly disappeared for about two years and a half, then he was transferred to Maratah prison where he was released.

The media and human rights, not to mention the political, follow – ups at the international level, do not rise to the required level of care in a people, such as the Kurds in Syria, whose areas have been occupied and being exposed to a systematic demographic change, which rise to the level of ethnic cleansing.
